- Engine oil – Oiling is very essential to keep the engine in good working condition. It lubricates various parts of the engine and ensures smooth functioning. The oil should be changed every 2 to 3 months depending on your usage. It only takes less than half an hour to change the oil. Never change oil when the engine is hot, allow it to cool for a few hours. Drain off the old oil by removing the drain plug. This is located at the bottom of your engine. Collect the old oil in a container and then fix the plug tightly. Now change the old filter if required and refill new oil.
- Coolant tank – This is the easiest of all other car fixing tips. Simply open the bonnet and check for a plastic tank located on one side of the engine. This tank can be replaced in a few minutes. All you need to do is buy a new one, empty the coolant into new tank and connect it with the radiator pipe. You are done with the job. A leaky coolant tank can increase the temperature of your car and cause sudden breakdowns if the car is heated.
- Wiper – Sometimes, the wiper stops working if you do not use it for too long. In such cases, it is good to replace it since it is prone to rusting. You would have to buy a linker/linkage, since this part of the wiper gets jammed. You can learn how to fix a car wiper from the user manual. All you need are a new linker and a basic car tool kit to replace it. You can expect a little work out since it is not easy to remove rusted parts while fixing the car.
- Battery – The car battery may require a recharge if the car is not used for long. The battery loses its power and would require approximately 24 hours of charging. There is no need to hire a mechanic since you can remove the battery and take it for charging. A basic tool kit would be good enough for plugging and unplugging the battery.
Car fixing is not as difficult as it seems to be. With a little bit of knowledge and practice you can fix minor problems and save big money. It is not a Herculean task and does not require any expertise. If you are afraid of experimenting then observe a mechanic while he repairs your car. Have a keen eye and ask questions to clear your doubts, this way you can be sure that when you try your hands at repairing, it doesn’t lead to a mishap.
